The 100th day of school is a big deal these days. For the staff and kids it signals only 80 more days until summer. Kim Hobson Richardson, media specialist at Creekside Elementary, makes a very big deal of it for kindergartners. The library is decorated with at least eight easy-reader books mentioning the 100 days. Kim got octogenarian Stan Grodski and nonagenarian Virginia Murphy of Churchland House to visit with two classes and answer the questions of youngsters who can't recall life without phones, computers, TVs, school buses and microwaves. The kids were awed with stories of one-room schools, ink cartridge pens, cow milking and with birthday numbers; Miss Virginia only has to celebrate three more birthdays to reach the magic 100. If you have a pampered pet, or know of one, it's time to check out Bennetts Creek's Home Away from Home which has opened at 3509 Bridge Road. An offshoot of Bennetts Creek Veterinary Care, Drs. Brandon Wichman and Robert Johnson have renovated a ranch home with primo accommodations for dogs and cats. Amenities include animal videos, webcam viewing and a fenced backyard bigger than most local dog parks with a view of water. Grooming can be provided, and there are options for play time, cuddle time and day care.
